Devyn has Angelman Syndrome -- a combination of autism and epilepsy. Her service dog, Hannah, helps prevent seizures and keep her on-task at school. The district requires Heather to provide a handler for her service dog, but Pereira wants the school staff to be allowed to assist with the dog.

Every child should have access to a quality education and it is the duty of our educators, Gates Chili School District, that said education is accessible to all students figuratively and literally. We are requesting a full explanation from the district, and you better have a good reason to deny a child their education because of unique characteristics.

The petition calls on the district to immediately begin proper accommodation for Devyn, which is permitting her service dogs in the school. This also calls on the district to review its current policy and implement necessary changes in regards to accommodation for children with disabilities.
