If the mandatory COVID-19 tests are administered to all players and coaches just days before the State Final Football game, each team could potentially be crippled and not allowed to play at the level they’ve been allowed to play at all season long. 

High school sports are a highlight in the lives of millions of people.  The football teams for Morgan and Juab counties this fall (2020) are right there with all the other fall sports in stumbling through all the rules, requirements and mandates placed on them to help control the spread of COVID-19 and have stumbled without many complaints.  

The past few weeks have been an exciting time to watch the other fall sports programs progress through their playoffs and championship games.   The football team has put in the hours, put in the efforts to control the spread, and has done it with a grateful heart - just happy to play their games.   

With just days before the pinnacle of an extraordinary season, the recent mandate has begun to cripple all they have worked for.  With the mandatory testing just 3 days before the State Final game,  and new rules in place that prevent players from participating even beyond the 14 days since receiving a positive test result, the game will not be an accurate representation of the team.   Therefore, the results of the game could potentially not be an accurate representation of what they could’ve accomplished were there not so many rules enforced on them.   

On behalf of the players and parents who know what they’ve sacrificed to get to this game, we propose that the mandatory testing before the game be halted and a mandatory quarantine be placed in effect on all players after the game in order to comply with the efforts of the state in the attempt to “stop the spread” of COVID-19.   

Let them all play.  They deserve a true game.
