Complete sidewalk on north side of 11th Street

Complete sidewalk on north side of 11th Street
The Issue
There is no sidewalk for one block on the north side of 11th Street, between Cherry Valley Ave and Golf Club Lane (in front of the GC Water Building and GC Historical Society). There is a sidewalk on the block to the east, and a sidewalk on the block to the west, but it is missing on this one block. We have 3.3 miles of continuous sidewalk stretching from Stewart Manor to Washington Ave, except for this one block. The lack of a sidewalk primarily impacts the residents living on 11th Street, Carteret Place, the west end of 10th Street, and the west side of Cherry Valley Avenue, but all residents of the village who like to walk in the area are impacted.
One of the greatest things about living in Garden City is that it has an amazing downtown area that is within walking distance for many residents. It makes for a great community where you run into neighbors while walking and can also enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise instead of having to drive everywhere. Completing this stretch of sidewalk would also help the village to comply with the National Complete Streets campaign and make the village more environmentally-friendly.
A sidewalk is needed on the north side of 11th Street because it is very difficult to walk across this area and impassable for handicapped residents. The residents live extremely close to the shops and restaurants on Franklin Avenue (less than 0.5 mile), yet they do not have a safe way to walk there.
The ground is on this block is covered by uneven grass which slopes sharply towards the street. It is incredibly difficult to push a stroller over the ground, which means parents are not able to walk to the stores and restaurants on Franklin Avenue with their young children. It is hard to ride a bike across the grass here, and there is no shoulder on the road with a bike lane. Some residents in the neighborhood use wheelchairs, and they are not able to cross the grass here. It is also dangerous for joggers because of the steep incline and uneven surface. It is difficult to walk through here on a normal day, but even more dangerous when it is wet or there is snow.
We are asking the GC CPOA, the GC Dept of Public Works, and the GC Board of Trustees to all support the completion of the sidewalk on the north side of 11th Street so that residents are able to safely walk to the Historical Society, Senior Center, train station, shops, and restaurants, all of which are in very close proximity to their homes.
