We want to change the law for the punishment of mistreatment of animals
The Issue
Our issue that we are campaigning for is the mistreatment of animals. We don’t feel that the sanctions for breaking the law on the mistreatment of animals are strong enough and this is what we feel needs changing.
At the moment the RSPCA have recorded 159,831 complaints for animal cruelty and yet only secured 2,419 cases which shows us that whilst there is a punishment for cruelty of animals for up to a £20,000 fine and up to 6 months in prison, the sanctions for breaking the laws are not always followed up and therefore the threat of animal cruelty is high.
Our main three objectives and aims are: to raise awareness of our issue, to change the laws for the mistreatment of animals and raise money to support our chosen charity RSPCA who help injured animals. To do this we want to petition and get enough signatures for our petition to be taken seriously in parliament.
