Petition to the Gainesville, Texas City Council

We, the undersigned qualified voters of the City of Gainesville, Texas, respectfully request the City Council adopt a resolution placing before the voters in November 2026,  a charter amendment concerning the date of regular municipal elections.

We believe reasonable people can disagree on whether Gainesville’s municipal elections should remain in May or be moved to November.

Because this issue affects every voter, we believe the citizens themselves should have the opportunity to hear both sides of the issue and determine the future election date through a citywide vote. 

Democracy is built on the foundation that the people should have a say in the decisions that govern their lives.
