Hi there folks,
I wondered if you could spare two minutes to comment on the South of Scotland Land use framework draft.
The final consultation closes shortly on the 23rd.
Its a rare opportunity to feed into future Government policy as to the use of land (links at bottom)
Basically, as can be seen from the map showing proposed forestry expansion (mostly on arable land) it seems the draft is an endorsement of the Governments 'net zero' agenda, and for the Scottish Borders to become Scotlands 'renewable' wind farm and forest zone.
(currently the Scottish Borders has around 20 per cent forestry cover)
Without getting into the complexity of the draft and the questions in the survey, Ive quite simply put the following in the final further comments.
“ Notably absent in the draft is recognition of the Teviothead Volcanic Complex, its unique Border frontier history, its paths and rights of way, its geology, archeology, and its place now within UNESCOs Frontiers of the Roman Empire.
This region has never been subject to any surveys at all, and it is time the cultural importance of this area is recognised, surveyed and preserved as an entity, a protected zone or a National Park, for the future enjoyment and prosperity of all, and we believe this should be included in this land use study ”
Your welcome to copy and paste if your views are the same!

Thanks! Best wishes,
Ken:)
