It's always sunny is a hilarious, brilliantly written show. Whenever they have had an offensive moment that targets any group in a "too far" kind of moment, they have the group do things like go "WOOOAHH!" They show the audience that is is not "actually" acceptable, while still being the offensive, horrible gang we someone came to love.

It's always sunny has been successful in every occurrence of things that skate the line, while telling the audience that this isn't "actually" ok. Except in one, that demands justice. When they introduced their transgender character, as they only call her "tranny," they never told viewers that "tranny" was actually a wildly unacceptable word to the vast majority of transgender people. The went on to having the gang call her the "father" of Dee's baby, and again, there was never a moment where anyone else corrected them or went "WOOAHH!" for her sake. This shows viewers that this is "ok." They never showed the transwoman really stand up for herself when they should of, they never had her take a moment to explain to them that her "penis was never CUT OFF,"- which could have been a good chance to educate the majority of people who truly think penises are just "cut off." They also used the word that is even more vastly offensive in the transgender community, "shemale," in the episode of "The cracking of the liberty bell," where Mac tells people Dennis couldn't "drop the shemale act."

It is wildly important that we start to fix things like this on tv and the media especially. I think it would be a wonderful idea to start with a show as funny, and creative as It's always sunny, to make a historical move to take a moment in an episode and show a transgender person in a non offensive, and educational light. It would be very easy for them to do so, and would help transgender people everywhere, and the masses greatly, to understand transgenderism better.

The show should definitely team up with a few transgender women, and perhaps a transgender activist or two, to make sure they do a successful job is fixing this, as I don't believe the show ever meant to show her in such an offensive light. They showed her as a sane, successful person, who was also more intelligent then the group. They still followed the norm with making the group look insane and horrible, while showing her off as a normal person. It would just help immensely to transgender people and the education to the masses, to tell the people, "shemale" and "tranny" need to stop being used on tv and the media, as OK words. As well as her being called a "father." They could write a new episode where the gang re-calls her the "father" and her husband flips out on them yelling something like "IM the father! SHES the mother! How stupid are you guys?!" Just even basic, little moments can help immensely. Please help spread this!
