Further enforce fines on scammers who call people on the Do Not Call Registry
The Issue
For years now, my whole family (and I'm sure a lot of you guys as well) have been recieving spam calls from places farther off than just India, and some places that have disguised phone numbers as close to us as Raleigh. Despite this, nothing is seen being done about it. My father actually recieves several spam calls daily (he is on the registry as well, having had his phone number since 2007) which have NOT slowed down. If this keeps up, more and more people are susceptible to more and more scams. Now is a good time to act because over the course of their lifetime, 38% of Americans have been scammed, and 62% of those lost money from the scam. What if those numbers were to hit 0? We can make that happen. Now is the time to act.
My own great-grandmother, in 2022, almost completely fell for a scam from a call center claiming to be Norton -- she would have lost about $1,000 that day. This may not be a big issue to some, but people are actively losing money. These calls have become so widespread that in 2023, Americans received an average of 3.7 spam calls per day, according to a report by TrueCaller.
