Fund the Morristown Centennial Library

The Issue

This petition is to let the selectboard know how important the library is to the people of Morristown. We request that the selectboard rescind their vote to defund the library if their budget does not pass.

Morristown without the library is a town without learning, ideas, and engagement.

The Morristown Centennial Library serves as a place of learning, exploration, and connection. It provides access to a wide range of books, resources, and digital materials that promote literacy, knowledge acquisition, and personal development. For many children (like my niece and nephew), the library is their first introduction to the wonders of reading, sparking a lifelong love for books.

Moreover, the library fosters a sense of community by hosting events and programs that bring people together. It offers a safe space where residents can gather, engage in discussions, and exchange ideas.

Closing down the public library would disproportionately impact marginalized members of our community who rely on its services the most. Many individuals may not have access to the internet or afford private book collections, making the library their primary source of information and entertainment.

Please sign this petition and if you can, contact the Select Board directly so we can keep this unbelievable place (and its staff and volunteers) in our community.
