The Issue
In 2022, the amount of homeless people was 15,500. That is more than 10,000 people increase just in the last 4 years. If we are able to have that great of an increase in 4 years just wait for the next few. This shows how homelessness is increasing each year and we need to act now.
The Massachusetts government is cutting funding for the homeless, more specifically, the homeless shelters. Government funding to help build shelters would be a huge factor in saving lives.
A California study shows the benefits of homeless shelters. Shelters provide safety and basic necessities of life and inspire people to have hope.Instead of unsafe, cold, non-livable places, homeless shelters provide what people need to survive. These shelters can and will save lives. People are losing their lives due to homelessness within Massachusetts.
In Gardner Magazine discusses how homelessness affects health.For instance, 20% of homeless people struggle with long-term mental or physical health issues and 35% of the homeless population are families.
When people study with physical and mental health issues because of homelessness, it becomes harder to get their life back together and get a home of their own one day. Shelters will help to prevent these issues to make sure everyone has a chance for a home.
Homelessness in Massachusetts keeps getting worse and children are missing out on the best education because they don’t have a stable home environment. According to Family Promise, At the moment, 61% of homeless people have children and those children can be missing out on educationLearning the basics of life at a young age is needed to have a successful future and these children are missing out on it. If they don’t have basic education, they won’t be able to get a house in the future and their children will go through the same thing, increasing homelessness even more. We need to help these children now.
