Fund E.E. Smith High School theater improvements
The Issue
Our beloved theater teacher at E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville, NC, has tirelessly advocated for essential improvements to our school's theater department, and yet, her requests have gone unanswered. The theater is a vital hub for creativity and culture at our school, hosting a variety of events and productions that enrich the lives of students and the community alike. However, we are struggling to rise to our full potential because we are working with equipment that has not been updated in 40 years.
Our current situation is dire. The lights are dim, the lighting instruments are outdated, and the lighting board is on its last leg. Corded and cordless microphones are a necessity, yet we are forced to make do with what is often unreliable and inadequate. Microphone stands, monitors, and video equipment are also either non-existent or outdated, hampering our ability to deliver quality performances.
In addition, our theater curtains are frayed and in need of replacement, and the stage itself is crying out for a fresh coat of paint, meaningful shelves, and reliable railings for safety. Our students need the proper resources, such as individual makeup kits, to accentuate their acting talents. The lack of these elements has an impact not just on performances but on the education and development of our students as they miss out on the chance to experience professional level theater techniques and technology.
Theater is not just about acting, it's about the entire production that teaches teamwork, discipline, and creativity, creating memories and opportunities that last a lifetime. However, without immediate funding for new theater curtains, lighting, sound equipment, and other critical upgrades, we are unable to offer the quality of education and experience that our students and community deserve.
We urge the school district, local businesses, and community members to kindly consider funding or adopting a school. By investing in the theater department, you'll not only be nurturing the next generation of artists but also fortifying Fayetteville's cultural landscape.
Please sign this petition to advocate for the necessary funding that will bring our theater department up to modern standards and empower our students to shine on stage!
