The issue

My son and all of his friends ride freestyle BMX here in Perth, and they are passionate about their sport. They, along with many other local youth, often have to travel interstate for competitions and to access better facilities. This gap between Perth and other states in terms of BMX infrastructure is significant. We have amazingly talented riders here who have the capability to excel, but unfortunately, they lack the adequate facilities to practice and hone their skills locally. Freestyle BMX is now an Olympic sport, and I firmly believe that with the right opportunities, many of our local riders in Perth could reach those heights.

Perth City Council, we are calling on you to fund and build a public indoor skatepark for our local youth. An indoor skatepark would provide a safe and dedicated space for BMX riders and skaters alike, protecting them from the harsh sun, heat, and rain. This facility can serve as a community hub for youth engagement, sports development, and social interaction.

Additionally, such a skatepark would align with initiatives to promote healthy, active lifestyles among young people. It offers an opportunity for Perth to nurture homegrown talent, potentially leading to future Olympic athletes representing Australia.

The existing facilities in Perth are insufficient for the growing number of BMX enthusiasts. Investing in a public indoor skatepark would not only benefit the youth and athletes but would also promote tourism, economic growth, and community spirit.

Let's support our young athletes and give them the facilities they deserve. Help us bridge the gap between Perth and the other states, and allow our youth to train, excel, and compete at their full potential.

Sign this petition to urge the Perth City Council to invest in the future of our local youth and establish a public indoor skatepark.
