Fully Fund Restorative Justice in Oregon: Invest in Community

The Issue

This year, the Oregon Legislature is considering the most drastic budget cuts in recent state history. Approximately $700 million is likely to be removed and redistributed within our social infrastructures, threatening a wide range of essential community-based services. Over the past three years, important investments have been made through the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission's Restorative Justice Grant Program which is currently supporting 15 programs across the state.

We are requesting that the Oregon Legislature fund the Restorative Justice Grant Program with $8M for the next biennium. Any cuts to continued funding will jeopardize the important investments made since 2022, wasting millions of dollars spent in planning and implementation stages. Restorative justice programs provide crucial support to victims and survivors of crime, people experiencing criminogenic risk factors, and the wider communities within which conflict and harm occurs.

Oregonians want and deserve holistic forms of justice that repair harm caused, prevent future harm, and cultivate true public safety through community connection and collaboration. Please support these values by fully funding the Restorative Justice Grant Program with $8M in the 2025-2027 budget.
