Full NROTC Scholarships at Spelman College
This is a Call to Action to Spelman College to join Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University in the offering of Full Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Scholarships. Atlanta University Center is comprised of Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University and Spelman College — premier Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) in Atlanta, GA.
The Morehouse NROTC program hosts Naval reservists (Midshipmen) that upon completion of their Bachelor’s Degrees commission into the United States Navy for active duty service.
For more than a decade, Morehouse College has supplemented NROTC tuition scholarships with room and/or board, a practice adopted recently by Clark Atlanta University. Full scholarships are mutually beneficial and facilitate high potential student enrollment, retention, and dramatically increases the number of exemplary black commissioned officers from the Morehouse NROTC program.
Notably, the percentage of prospective NROTC midshipmen from Spelman College has declined due to the exclusion of room and board from this unique opportunity. The current scholarship fails to address the financial hardship caused by room and board peaking at roughly $14K per academic school year. Without Spelman’s goodwill, this creates an inequity among the AUC and is a stark disadvantage for exceptional, aspiring women of African descent.
Let us show Dr. Campbell that Spelman should choose to change the world for the future of its students that have made the ultimate choice to serve our country following graduation. “Stand the Test, Join the Best” sign up in solidarity today to make this initiative a reality for future Spelman women in Naval service!
