Full Credit Retake Should Be Given To WHS Alg 2 Students For Quiz on Feb 28

The Issue

On February 28, students at Wylie High School were tasked with a demanding Algebra 2 quiz. Many of us were unable to finish within the given time and a large majority felt underprepared for the complexity of the material. This oversight has caused stress and anxiety among students and has created a barrier to our learning process.
As algebra is considered as the backbone of high school maths [1], which makes it a fundamental part of our education. Making a slight change in our grading system can have larger positive impacts throughout our academic life. Studies suggest that grades should reflect learned knowledge, not just initial attempts [2]. Hence, offering students an opportunity to redo the quiz will not only correct this single instance but also realign the grading and teaching systems to better foster learning and understanding.
We request teachers of Wylie High School to allow retakes for the Algebra 2 quiz that was taken on February 28, and grant us full credit for it. This small step can make a tangible difference to the overall academic climate at our school and effectively validate the effort students put into learning. Please sign our petition if you support students being given an opportunity to learn from our mistakes and show our true potential.
