Full and transparent consultation before proposed school day and calendar changes for CWC

The Issue

We, the undersigned parents and carers of students at Canary Wharf College (CWC), call on the Trust to pause any unilateral changes to the school day and term dates and to conduct a full and transparent consultation process — with published results — before any decisions are made.

Why We’re Concerned
CWC has thrived under its current structure, offering longer school days and extended holidays that provide a healthy balance between academic focus and family time. Many families (and staff) chose the school precisely for this model, which supports both learning and wellbeing.

The proposed shortening of school days and holidays risks undermining these strengths — and could negatively affect pupil outcomes including retention and attendance, teacher retention, and family life.

Moreover, Ofsted has recently praised Canary Wharf College Glenworth for pupils’ excellent behaviour and positive attitudes, confirming that “pupils behave exceptionally well.” This raises a crucial question: why attempt to fix a problem that doesn’t exist?

What We Ask

  • A full and transparent consultation, including clear communication of proposed changes, sufficient time for feedback, and publication of the consultation results before any decisions are implemented.
  • Genuine consideration of parent, staff, and student perspectives in shaping the future structure of the school day and term dates.
  • A commitment to protect what already works — the balance and ethos that make CWC exceptional.

We urge the leadership to act openly and collaboratively, respecting the trust families have placed in the school and ensuring that any future changes strengthen — rather than diminish — what makes CWC special.
