The Issue

California deserves the right to decide its own future.

For too long, our state — the world’s 4th largest economy (bigger than the UK, France, or India) — has been tied to a federal system that takes more than it gives. According to the state’s Legislative Analyst’s Office, Californians send tens of billions more in federal taxes than we ever see returned. In fact, California loses an estimated $13–20 billion annually in this imbalance.

Meanwhile, Washington imposes policies that don’t reflect our values, our priorities, or our communities.

This isn’t just about politics. It’s about real people, real families, and real futures.

Our Story

I’ve lived in California my entire life, and I’ve seen both the incredible promise of our state and the deep frustration of its people. We lead in technology, culture, and innovation — home to Silicon Valley, Hollywood, and the world’s largest agricultural economy — yet too often, we’re held back by a government thousands of miles away that doesn’t understand us.

When wildfires devastate our communities (costing California over $25 billion in damages in 2018 alone), federal disaster relief comes too late and too little. When drought threatens our water supply (with 2021–22 droughts costing California agriculture $3 billion in losses), federal policy fails to protect us.

Our neighbors, our families, and our children deserve better.

Who’s Impacted

Families: California has some of the nation’s highest housing costs, yet billions of our tax dollars leave the state every year.
Students: California students graduate with $147 billion in student debt, while federal higher education funding disproportionately benefits smaller states.
Immigrant communities: Nearly 27% of Californians are immigrants, yet federal immigration policies often target and destabilize our families.
Workers and small businesses: California entrepreneurs generate more venture capital than any other state, but federal regulations prioritize Wall Street over our innovation economy.
This isn’t abstract — it touches every Californian in their daily lives.

Our Goal & Obstacles

We are fighting for a simple, democratic right: to give Californians the choice to vote on independence.

Our obstacle is clear: entrenched political power in Washington will resist this movement at every turn. They benefit from California’s wealth and influence, and they won’t give it up easily. That’s why this petition matters. Every signature is proof that Californians are ready to claim their voice.

What’s at Stake

If we succeed, Californians will finally have the power to chart our own future:

Reinvest our tax dollars here at home.
Set our own immigration and border policies.
Prioritize clean energy — California already produces 33% of U.S. renewable energy.
Build a system that reflects our values of inclusion, innovation, and sustainability.
If we fail, nothing changes. Washington will continue to strip California of resources, undermine our choices, and hold us back. The cost of inaction is another lost generation.

Why Now

The urgency has never been greater. With a presidential election looming, federal dysfunction at historic levels, and California’s economy and culture stronger than ever, now is the time to act.

Every signature matters. Each one is a step toward the ballot, toward a vote, and toward a future where California is free to thrive.

What’s Next: A New California Country

When we succeed, Californians will finally have the right to choose our own future through a democratic vote on independence. That vote will not just be symbolic — it will be the first step toward building a new nation: the Republic of California.

This means:

Self-Government

California will draft its own constitution, designed by Californians for Californians. We’ll decide how to govern ourselves, with systems that reflect our values of democracy, diversity, and innovation.

Economic Freedom

As the 5th largest economy in the world, California will reinvest the billions of tax dollars we currently send to Washington back into our schools, healthcare, housing, and infrastructure. Instead of subsidizing federal priorities, we’ll invest in California’s future.

Global Recognition

California will pursue recognition from the international community as a sovereign nation, forming its own trade agreements, climate treaties, and diplomatic relations — just as other independent nations do.

Energy & Environment

We’ll strengthen our role as a global leader in clean energy and climate action. With independence, California can set its own environmental standards and accelerate the transition to renewable power without federal interference.

Protecting People & Communities

California will decide its own immigration policies, labor protections, and social programs. We’ll build a system that values inclusion and opportunity for everyone who calls this land home.

The Path Forward

Success doesn’t mean overnight change — it means the start of a carefully managed transition. Just like dozens of nations before us, California will negotiate with the U.S. and international partners to ensure stability for our economy, currency, borders, and citizens.

But make no mistake: independence means a stronger, freer, and more prosperous California — a California that answers only to itself.

Our Plan to Accomplish Calexit

We know independence will not happen overnight — but history shows that determined people can change the course of nations. Our path forward is clear, strategic, and democratic.

1️⃣ Build Public Support

We are mobilizing Californians through petitions, rallies, community organizing, and education. Every signature, every event, and every conversation builds momentum and demonstrates that this movement is not fringe — it is mainstream.

2️⃣ Secure the Ballot

Our immediate goal is to qualify a statewide ballot initiative that gives Californians the chance to vote on independence. This is the heart of democracy: letting the people decide.

3️⃣ Legislative & Legal Action

We will work with state lawmakers, legal experts, and international advisors to draft a clear roadmap for independence. This includes negotiating transition terms with Washington and preparing California’s legal framework as a sovereign state.

4️⃣ International Recognition

At the same time, we will begin outreach to the global community. California, as the world’s 5th largest economy, has the power to establish trade, climate, and cultural partnerships with other nations.

5️⃣ Transition Planning

We will create a phased plan to ensure a smooth and stable transition for our people — covering currency, borders, defense, healthcare, and infrastructure. Other nations have succeeded in this process; California can too.

Our Commitment

This movement is peaceful, democratic, and rooted in the principle of self-determination. We are not seeking conflict — we are seeking choice. Our plan is to empower Californians with the right to vote and then, step by step, build the foundation of a free and independent California.

Why Donations Matter

Every great movement is powered not only by passion, but by resources. Calexit is no different. We are fighting to give Californians the right to vote on independence, and that takes real infrastructure — organizing teams, petition drives, legal expertise, media outreach, and events across the state.

Every dollar counts. Whether it’s $5 or $500, your donation fuels the engine of this movement. But make no mistake: this is a massive undertaking. From qualifying the ballot initiative to holding rallies, from printing petitions to producing media, from legal defense to volunteer support — funding is essential to turn signatures into a statewide vote and a vote into freedom.

California has the power to become a nation, but only if we work together and invest in that future.

Donate today, and know that you are not just giving money — you are helping write history.

California’s future starts with you. Go to CalexitNow.org and take action now.
