Parents and Kids be aware that recently we have many pharmacies having stocks of “ORS-L” by Jagdale Industries Limited being given to patients as ORS for diarrhoea and for rehydration.The tetrapac is named ‘ORS-L where as just below is written Apple Drink. Please do not mistake this for ORS- the oral rehydration solution that was recommended by WHO(world health organization) which helped prevent many diarrhoea deaths all over the world. I feel sad that there are people who would name their apple juices ORS just to fool people to buy the drink. Worrisome for many doctors who prescribe ORS for children without knowing that they are taking apple juice instead.
The total osmolarity of ORS-L is 585 mmol/L and is guaranteed to cause a severe osmotic diarrhea if ingested in adequate quantity.
Where as the recommended WHO formulation should have a Osmolarity of 245mmol/L.
Please spread this message. So that it reaches the authorities that can ban this product from the market.
