The Issue

In Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, students are unnecessarily burdened with strict attendance policies and heavy compulsory subjects that do not necessarily contribute to their core fields of study. The primary issue is the imposition of maintaining an 85% attendance rate during midterm examinations if not met student is not permitted to write mid term exam . This attendance policy can be understood for end semester exams but not for mid sems . This level of strictness can become a source of stress and potentially hampers academic performance, creating a situation that feels more like harassment than an optimal learning environment. Moreover, the curriculum involves dealing with 9 subjects each semester, including non-essential subjects that are made compulsory. We understand the importance of a comprehensive learning system but also believe in the necessity of relevance to one’s field of study. The current structure fails to focus on this aspect, bringing about an education model that could be seen as outmoded. This change impacts hundreds of students annually and needs immediate attention. Reducing the attendance requirement to a more manageable 65-75%, as well as reviewing the compulsory subjects that are included each semester, will create a more productive educational environment that promotes both academic success and wellbeing. Please sign this petition to urge the dean of student welfare to reconsider these policies.
