Subject: Petition regarding the academic difficulties and challenges faced by Class IX students due to the implementation of the new NCERT textbooks and curriculum
Respected Sir/Madam,
We, the students and concerned parents of Class IX, respectfully submit this petition to bring to your attention the difficulties being faced by students following the implementation of the new NCERT textbooks and revised curriculum for the academic session 2026–27.
We understand that the changes have been introduced with the objective of improving the education system and aligning school education with the National Curriculum Framework. However, the transition to a significantly revised curriculum has created several practical challenges for students.
Many Class IX students are finding it difficult to adjust to the new textbooks, revised content, different patterns of learning, and increased conceptual requirements within a short period of time. Students who have already spent several years following the previous curriculum are required to adapt to substantial changes while simultaneously preparing for their regular school assessments.
We respectfully wish to highlight the following concerns:
Difficult transition: Students need sufficient time to understand and adapt to the new curriculum and textbooks.
Increased academic pressure: The transition, together with regular school examinations, assignments and other academic requirements, can place additional pressure on students.
Lack of adequate transition material: Students would benefit from clear bridge materials explaining important differences between the previous and revised curriculum.
Assessment clarity: Students and parents need clear and timely information regarding the examination pattern, syllabus coverage, question-paper structure and assessment criteria.
Teacher preparedness: Teachers require adequate orientation, training and teaching resources so that the revised curriculum can be implemented consistently across schools.
Availability of learning resources: Students need sufficient supporting material, examples, practice questions and guidance corresponding to the new textbooks.
Fairness during the transition period: Students should not be academically disadvantaged merely because they are among the first batches required to adjust to the revised curriculum.
In view of these concerns, we respectfully request CBSE to consider the following measures:
Provide a reasonable transition period for Class IX students.
Issue comprehensive and student-friendly guidelines explaining the revised syllabus and assessment pattern.
Provide bridge courses or bridge-learning material wherever necessary.
Provide additional sample papers, practice material and explanatory resources based on the new curriculum.
Ensure adequate teacher training and orientation before introducing major changes in classroom teaching and assessment.
Consider the academic workload of students while implementing the revised curriculum.
Clearly communicate examination and assessment expectations well in advance.
Establish a mechanism through which students, parents and teachers can submit feedback regarding difficulties encountered during implementation.
Review the implementation periodically and make necessary adjustments based on genuine student and teacher feedback.
We fully respect the objective of improving school education and appreciate the efforts being made to modernize the curriculum. Our request is not against educational reform. Rather, we seek a smooth, fair and student-friendly transition so that the intended benefits of the new curriculum can be achieved without placing unnecessary academic pressure on students.
We therefore request the Central Board of Secondary Education to kindly consider the concerns raised in this petition and take appropriate steps in the interest of Class IX students.
Yours faithfully,
