This petition is to request the installation of roundabouts at the intersections of Frogtown Road & Galileo Blvd/Wynford Way and also at Frogtown Road & War Admiral Dr. as part of the planned Frogtown Road Improvement Project. 

Frogtown Road has seen a substantial increase in traffic and poses a serious threat to safety and mobility. It's particularly hazardous during certain times of the day when school traffic is at its peak. The Kentucky Transportation Bureau embarked upon an Improvement Project that will address the capacity of the roadway to support greater traffic volume by widening, straightening, and adding a center turn lane. These improvements will make turning onto Frogtown Road, especially left turns, from the various businesses, schools, and neighborhoods even more treacherous with increased speeds on Frogtown Road and the fact that vehicles approaching cross streets will no longer need to slow down for other vehicles seeking to make a left turn off Frogtown Road.

The proposed widening of this road provides us with an outstanding opportunity to enhance safety and mitigate risks by installing roundabouts at Galileo Dr. and War Admiral Dr. In a June 28, 2024 email from Driving NKY Progress, an organization “powered by” District 6 of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, it was stated that roundabouts result in:

90% reduction in fatal crashes
75% reduction in injury crashes, and
37% reduction in total crashes
The message also stated the benefits of roundabouts include:

Saves time since traffic is continuous and drivers experience fewer stops and less congestion
Improves safety by slowing travel speeds through the intersection
Improve access to buildings on the opposite side of the road by eliminating left turns across incoming traffic
Reduces fuel costs because drivers don’t need to make as many stops followed by hard accelerations
Saves taxpayer dollars since there isn’t a traffic signal to install, power and maintain.

These findings are further supported by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the Federal Highway Administration. By investing in these roundabouts as part of the already planned project, we can substantially improve safety, enhance mobility, and improve the quality of life for our communities, schools, churches, and businesses that rely on the Frogtown Road for daily commuting. We urge the relevant authorities to include roundabouts in the forthcoming Frogtown Road project for a safer and more efficient local transportation system.
