Friends of the Shrub Oak Memorial Park Roller Rink
The Issue
We, the Friends of the Shrub Oak Memorial Park Roller Rink, are calling on the Yorktown Town Board and Yorktown Recreation Commission to partner with us in the restoration and modernization of our community’s historic rink. Our goal is to revitalize this important asset into a safe, premier space for all Yorktown residents to enjoy.
In 2001, this rink was built through a dedicated partnership between the Town of Yorktown and local families who saw a need for a youth outlet. Today, we are asking for the opportunity to restore that original vision in memory of Joseph R Pagliaro.
For Joey, this rink was more than just a place to play; it was his outlet - a space where he forged lifelong friendships and learned the value of community. We want to ensure that the next generation of Yorktown youth has that same opportunity to grow, connect, and play.
After two decades of use, the rink is in disrepair. Our goal is to lead a Public-Private Partnership to bring the facility back to its full potential:
- Phase 1 Restoration: Professional resurfacing for street and roller hockey, restoring the "home court" for our local athletes.
- A Dedicated Fund: Utilizing a 501(c)(3) to manage donations and grants, ensuring the project is built through community support.
- Kick-off Event: Join us for our Community Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 2nd at 9am. Register here!
This is a true community effort, and we need more than just signatures to make this a reality.
- Volunteer Your Expertise: Whether you are a lawyer, accountant, contractor, or business owner, we welcome any and all professional services to help us navigate the legal and construction hurdles ahead.
- Support for Events: If you own a restaurant or local business and want to help fuel our Community Clean-Up Day or future fundraisers, we would love to hear from you!
- Donations: Please note that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status is currently in progress. To ensure total transparency and that every dollar goes directly to the rink (and not a general fund), we will wait until our legal foundation is finalized before accepting financial donations. Stay tuned for that announcement!
