Thank you again for adding your name to the petition calling for a council tax freeze in 2026.
We wanted to provide a quick update ahead of the upcoming budget meeting on 27th March 2026, where Clackmannanshire Council will decide whether to approve the proposed 5.6% increase.
The petition has now reached over 680 signatures, which is more than three times the number of people (203) who participated in the council’s official consultation for this budget. Even the council’s own consultation shows strong support for focusing on essential services and priorities that directly impact residents.
Concerns over priorities have been raised following last year’s 2025 council decisions. After a 13% council tax increase, pay rises were awarded not to frontline workers, but to elected councillors and senior management. For example, the council leader’s pay rose by 40.7%, increasing from £35,580 to £50,063, following nationally agreed changes to councillor remuneration structures. In addition, the Chief Executive was awarded a £32,000 pay rise, highlighting what some residents see as a misalignment between leadership priorities and community needs.
