Freedom to express oneself during graduation

The Issue

Salem High School, Virginia Beach, Virginia, is the only school in Virginia Beach that doesn’t allow students to freely express themselves during graduation. This includes ethnic heritage clothing, custom caps or tassels, and anything that isn’t deemed “appropriate” for graduating. Students are simply asking to adorn themselves with appropriate markers of themselves, their high school journey, and their heritage as a whole. However if they do this they will be banned from walking. We are making this petition to demand a change in rules to allow students to express themselves without being discriminated against.
