29th of June 2019: Refugees of the rescue ship "Sea Watch 3" were finally able to disembark in the port of Lampedusa. Italian authorities had forbidden them to call at the port of the Mediterranean island, which is why they had to persevere on the ship for over two weeks. Eventually, Captain Carola Rackete opposed this ban and decided to dock at the port. A small police boat tried to prevent her from doing so. Shortly thereafter, she was arrested due to being accused of resisting a warship, which violates maritime regulations. She could now possibly face up to ten years of imprisonment. A woman who has saved 53 lives is being treated like a criminal!

Seeing pictures of said night made me feel great relief: Finally, the refugees were rescued. They were safe at last. Unfortunately, this was followed by complete speechlessness immediately after. The woman who, in an act of complete selflessness, put the lives of others above her own future, who acted out of pure empathy and compassion, this admirable woman was arrested and is now treated like a criminal. This is why I started this petition. People like Carola Rackete should be celebrated like heroes.

Please support my petition to stand up for more humanity and to demand the release of Carola Rackete.
