Free VCHA and Boycott JYP Division 3
The Issue
VCHA is an American girl group formed by the survival show A2K. They are currently under the labels JYP Entertainment and Republic Records. The group currently consists of five members: Camila, Lexi, Kendall, Savanna, and Kaylee.
On December 7th, 2024, KG announced she was leaving the group due to alleged mistreatment and abuse by the staff and agency.
She states, “I feel it was not a good environment for my mental health and I apologize if my leave disappoints any of you. I am not in support of the working and living conditions that led a member to attempt suic!de. Nor do I support an environment that encourage eating disorders and has caused members to self h@rm.”
KG also added that “I have accumulated a massive amount of company debt, while being paid very little for the intense work and extreme limitations on our personal lives.”
While JYP USA’s statement calls KG’s claims “false and exaggerated”, a supposed court document has been released. The document states the following:
- KG and her underage group mates faced intense mental and emotional pressure, which resorted in members doing self h@rm. In February of 2024, KG witnessed a fell member develop a serious eating disorder, which led to her attempting suic!de by ingesting 42 NyQuil pills. The next morning, KG found said member vomiting uncontrollably. When the members brought up their concerns the company, they were told that eating disorders were common. The girls were also instructed to conceal the suic!de attempt. Along with this, verbal abuse also occurred. KG was called a “terrible dancer” by a dance instructor on her birthday, which caused another member to cry.
- The company constantly surveilled the members without their consent. There was a camera found in the dining room to record their private meals and conversations. There was also a hidden camera in the pantry to monitor their eating habits 24/7.
- By April 2024, the company had claimed that KG’s work had resulted in an accumulated net income of about minus $504,543, meaning she received no share of the profits from her hard work and was falsely told that she instead owed them money.
- On September 14, 2023, a dance teacher forced KG to repeat a strenuous dance move hundreds of times which resulted in a torn shoulder tendon. The teacher then denied her water until she could master the move. This moment violated many of California laws and norms.
- The company pressured the members to live in a group home, claiming it was important for the success of the group, while their contract stated it was optional. The company then chose an expensive $2.5 million house without her input. They claimed that KG owed them $500,000 for it. Along with that, instead of paying her for her work, they took money from her earnings to cover these costs, and forced her to work for free.
- For over 6 months, the company only paid KG $500 a week, which is far below the California minimum wage for the 12+ hour workdays she endured.
There were many more instances and issues discussed in the documents that revealed just how horribly treated KG and the other members of VCHA are.
And this isn’t the only instance of mistreatment under Division 3 of JYP Entertainment. Global girl group TWICE was put under strenuous conditions to maintain weight. Momo revealed on a talk show that she had to lose 15 pounds the week before their debut date. She stated, “I didn’t eat anything for the whole week and went to the gym all the time. I spat all the time so there was no water in my body. And when I laid down on the bed and tried to sleep, I was scared that I wouldn’t wake up again, so I suddenly started crying.” Momo also revealed that she ate nothing but ice cubes for the entire week.
The treatment of VCHA have inhumane and horrible, and should be stopped for the safety of the members.
Please sign this petition to help free the members from this treatment, and boycott Division 3 of JYP Entertainment so they have no choice but to correct their mistakes.
