absolutely in support of that mission. Mr. Kang is an honorable man who did not deserve the evil that was enacted upon him. I am asking the court where does my family seek Justice and with whom? For at the time, I had been incarcerated for twenty-one years for a crime that I did not commit. And over and over the court chooses to not listen to exculpatory evidence (or evidence of innocence) for technical reasons. The judge in front of a room full of my supporters said. "Mr. Wallace, I believe that you may well be innocent, but if you cannot find this witness or provide another witness then my hands are tied". Now please be aware this judge at that time was literally the only person in the world whose hands were not tied. She believed that I might be innocent (according to her) and chose not to act. Also, this same judge in the same petition refused to listen to multiple other exculpatory witnesses for technical reasons. This judge postponed the hearing for an extraordinary amount of time until the witness went missing. Refused to listen to other witnesses with compelling evidence of innocence, provided me with an impossible task of finding said witness from jail, and then dismissed the case knowing full well that once the case was adjudicated, that this statement could never be used to bring the truth to light. Three days later this former judge retired and ostensibly never thought again about her role in sentencing a man that she acknowledged that may well be innocent to die in prison. One of my best friends Tykeem, a strong man is still shaken up to this day about what he witnessed happen to his friend on that day. Everyone just knew that this was the final piece, that I was finally coming home. Including the DA's office who began negotiations with my attorneys to settle my case. That process was moving forward until it was clear that the witness would not be showing up... Next, I will be writing about the court qualified polygraph exam that I took and passed.
On September 30th, 2015, Mr. Michael Martin who owns the Global Polygraph Network, which is the world's largest provider of polygraph services and referrals, came to SCI Smithfield where I was then housed and administered a polygraph examination regarding my wrongful conviction for the robbery and shooting death of Mr. John Young Su Kang. Mr. Martin has administered well over 10,000 polygraph examinations in his career. He has been recognized as a polygraph expert in Pennsylvania courts, he has authored two polygraph textbooks, and he is APA certified to provide advanced training to polygraph examiners. According to Mr. Martin, the polygraph examination that I took was administered to the standards of the American Polygraph Association (APA) and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and was scored both manually (ESS Scoring) and by computer algorithm. Both scoring systems indicated "Mr. Wallace's probability of involvement in the robbery of Mr. Kang as less than 1 in 1,000." This exam came about out of my push to clear my name. At the time there were no outside supporters, organizations or signatures on a petition. There was only one, my beautiful mother. She never doubted and always believed in who she birthed (love you mom). I needed something that would add some validity to my truthful claim of actual innocence. So, I hired an attorney and asked her to find a respected and qualified polygraph examiner. Mr. Martin was all business, we exchanged greetings and Mr. Martin began explaining the process and the science. Learning all about how the test worked and about his experience on major cases was fascinating. I found that I was not at all nervous and the reason for that is, at all times I move in truth. And as a result, I believe that absolutely my life is guided by truth, and I am afforded certain protections. And true to form the examination provided further evidence of my innocence. That evidence wound up helping to galvanize support from the Innocence
Project, the Institute of Community Justice, the Blank Rome firm, Fifth Influence, professors, lawyers, organizations and countless others especially everyday women and men. Being steadfast in truth has always been for me the best pathway forward. In my younger years I was not aware of that fact and therefore did not live in the space of truthfulness. In my twenties I was becoming more aware but was not ready to be fully committed. Now, moving in truth is a major component of who I am at all times. I have some major influential people in my life who serve as shining examples of truthful living, my good friends Laura White, Dave Perry and others. That philosophy has had major positive implication and turned my life around even in my current circumstances. Truth brought to me Mr. Michael Martin and his test help to bring in the love, energy and support of countless other men, women etc. What stood out most from my life altering encounter with Mr. Michael Martin is what he said to me at the end of the examination. Mr. Martin stood, shook my hand and stated, " it's an honor to meet an innocent man. "
