Free the Caldera wolf pack now — let Asha and her pups live wild
The Issue
Asha was born to be wild. So were her pups.
But right now, the entire Caldera Pack—Asha, her mate Arcadia, and their five newborn pups—are being held in captivity by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Their release into the wild was promised. It was scheduled. And then, with no public explanation, it was canceled.
Why?
Conservationists suspect political pressure from livestock lobbyists who oppose wolf recovery in the Southwest. If true, that’s not only cruel—it’s dangerous. The Mexican gray wolf is one of the most endangered mammals in North America. With just 286 remaining in the wild, every wolf—and every opportunity to restore genetic diversity—matters.
Asha captured the hearts of wildlife lovers nationwide when she defied an artificial boundary set by the federal government and roamed north of Interstate 40 in 2023. She was captured, paired with Arcadia, and told she would return to the wild. But now, she and her family are stuck in a holding pen—while the wild waits.
This isn’t just a delay. It’s a betrayal.
We’re calling on the U.S. Department of the Interior and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to immediately release Asha, Arcadia, and their pups into the wild, as promised!
Stand up to political interference that threatens endangered species recovery
Honor the public’s overwhelming support for wolf conservation.
The wild is calling. Asha and her pups deserve to answer.
