Free School Bus Transportation for All School-aged Children

Free School Bus Transportation for All School-aged Children
The Issue
Ensure Free School Bus Transportation for All Students
As a hardworking parent, watching my daughter struggle daily to get to school due to a lack of transportation is heartbreaking. No child should have to risk their safety or miss out on education simply because they lack a reliable way to get to school. Yet, under current Ohio policies, free public school transportation is only provided to students living more than 2 miles from their schools leaving countless families without options.
This policy disproportionately affects hardworking families, forcing children to walk in unsafe conditions, rely on costly alternatives, or, in some cases, miss school altogether. Education is a right, not a privilege & no child should be denied learning opportunities due to something as basic as transportation.
Why This Matters
According to the National Center for Safe Routes to School, only 25% of students walked or biked to school in 2009, compared to nearly 50% in 1969 a shift driven largely by safety concerns and logistics.
Many parents work early or late shifts, making it impossible to drive their children to school daily.
Families who can’t afford alternative transportation face barriers to education, leading to lower attendance and academic performance.
What We’re Fighting For
We need a fair, inclusive school transportation policy that ensures all students under 18 regardless of how close they live to school have access to free school bus transportation. No parent should have to choose between work and their children’s education, and no child should be forced to walk unsafe routes just to attend school.
Take Action Now
Please demand that Ohio lawmakers prioritize our children’s safety and education by mandating free school bus transportation for all school-aged students. Sign this petition today and help us make a lasting difference for thousands of families across Ohio
