Vernon Sykes is an American politician and professor, currently serving as the state Senator for Ohio's 28th district, which encompasses Akron, Barberton, Green, and other parts of Summit County. A dedicated member of the Democratic Party, Sykes has had a long and distinguished career in public service. He served as an Ohio state representative from 1983 to 2000 and again from 2007 to 2014, before being elected to the State Senate in 2017. In addition to his political career, Sykes is an academic, holding a Bachelor's degree from Ohio University and serving as an Assistant Professor and Director at the Center for Public Policy and Information at Kent State University. His career reflects a commitment to both education and public service.
