The Issue

In 2008, I, Richard Richardson, was convicted at just 19 years old and sentenced to a 360-year prison term in Virginia. As a lost teenager caught in addiction and poor choices, I fell in with the wrong crowd and was convicted as an accomplice. That sentence — 360 years — has meant I have spent the last 17 years behind bars.

But prison has not broken me. It has transformed me.

During these years, I have worked tirelessly to change the course of my life. I have been free from drugs and negative influences for over 14 years. I proudly live as a born-again Christian, dedicated to faith and growth. I have completed numerous programs, including *Thinking for a Change*, which teaches positive decision-making and responsibility.

I have written multiple novels (*Loyal 2 the Hustle*, *Spoken Word from the Heart*, *360°: Through the Eyes of a Life Sentence*, *Strive 4 Greatness*) and launched Royal Vibe Ventures, a company that helps other incarcerated individuals express themselves through writing. Instead of blaming others, I’ve accepted full responsibility for my past decisions and chosen to grow into a better man, son, brother, and father figure.

Education has been at the center of my rehabilitation. I’ve completed accredited courses in Business Software Applications, Data Entry, and Personal Computing. In 2024, I earned a Diploma in Marketing Management. Most recently, in August 2025, I graduated with honors from Yale University’s online program, achieving a 94.33% grade and certification in Financial Markets.

I sincerely apologize to the victims, my community, and everyone affected by my poor choices as a 19-year-old teenager. Today, at 36 years old, I am no longer the same person. I am proof that rehabilitation works.

This petition is not about excusing my past — it is about recognizing my present. Seventeen years of growth, learning, and service to others have prepared me for a second chance at life. Incarceration should be about rehabilitation and transformation, and I humbly ask that my story be seen as living proof of that purpose.

I ask for your signature to show support for my release and a chance to rejoin society as the man I have worked so hard to become. With your help, I can continue to inspire change — not from behind prison walls, but as a free man giving back to my community.

Please sign and share this petition to help me come home.

With gratitude,

Richard Richardson
