PETITION STATEMENT — RELEASE RONALD GREENE

We, the undersigned citizens of Ontario and Canada, call for the immediate release of Ronald Greene and a full investigation into the unlawful denial of his fundamental rights.

We affirm the following:

On May 21, Ronald Greene’s farm was raided by provincial authorities — an eight-hour operation in which officers on horseback, with dogs and whips, drove his cattle into chaos. Several calves were killed, and grown cows had their legs broken during the stampede caused by the raid.

Two days later, Ronald was arrested — not as a result of the raid itself, but based on a hearsay allegation that he had threatened someone. No evidence has ever been produced to support this claim.

During the arrest, authorities found an old .22 rifle in Ronald’s truck — a common farm tool used to protect calves from coyotes. The firearm did not require registration or a permit, but it did require a license under regulations that came into effect decades after Ronald originally acquired the gun. Ronald was never advised of the change in law, and had he been, he would have qualified for grandfathering as an existing owner.

Despite this, the .22 has been used to justify ongoing detention.

Since that time, Ronald has been denied both reasonable bail and the legal remedy of habeas corpus. Habeas Corpus application was denied by a court clerk and she said: " Ms. Scharf, the direction we’ve received is that we cannot proceed with this habeus corpus application as Mr. Greene has counsel. Please communicate your concerns to counsel on record, Ms. Brass, who is cc’d on this email chain."

This is not an isolated incident. Across history, communist regimes have always targeted farmers first — to crush independence, control the food supply, and enforce obedience. The same authoritarian tactics are being used in Canada today.

Bail was technically set, but the Crown made arbitrary and unreasonable objections to the only proposed surety and to the residence Ronald wished to be released to — so bail was not met.

His first lawyer failed to object to those objections or make any argument in support of release.

Ronald instructed both his first and second lawyers to bring forward alternate sureties and places of residence. Neither lawyer did so.

As a result, Ronald Greene has remained in jail for over seven weeks, in deplorable conditions, and in declining health — including a possible heart attack on June 27.

A habeas corpus application was filed on his behalf by Jane Scharf. The court refused to hear it.

This is a violation of one of the oldest and most sacred protections in our legal system.

Habeas corpus is not discretionary. It is a mandatory, non-negotiable common law remedy. Refusing to hear it is a violation of the rule of law.

We affirm that:

If a 71-year-old man who meets the legal criteria for release can be held in jail without cause — and then denied habeas corpus — this can happen to anyone.

This is the very power the kings of old once claimed for themselves: to detain anyone, at any time, without cause, explanation, or remedy.

That power was abolished by Magna Carta in 1215, which enshrined the principle that no one may be imprisoned without due process and lawful justification.

Yet that ancient tyranny has returned — here, in Canada, today.

We therefore demand:

The immediate release of Ronald Greene on reasonable bail;
The full restoration and enforcement of habeas corpus as a mandatory remedy in Ontario courts;

A formal investigation by the Sheriff into the conduct of the Crown, the court, and both lawyers who failed to act;

Legal and disciplinary accountability for all officials responsible for this unlawful detention.

If the Sheriff refuses to investigate, we support the striking of a people-led grand jury to lawfully investigate and rectify this matter.

This is not just about one man.
This is about whether we are governed by law — or by raw, unchecked power.

We will not return to the days before Magna Carta.
We demand justice. We demand liberty. We demand the Rule of Law.

NOTE: This is not a natural picture of Ronald Greene. It is a symbolic representation.
