Free Parking in downtown Martinez!

The Issue

Eliminate Martinez Public Parking Fees to Support our Small Businesses!

As a small business owner in our vibrant Bay Area city, I face daily struggles and impacts stemming from the current public parking fee system. The cost of these fees is not only be detrimental to myself, but also to my valued customers. Many customers feel the need to rush their shopping or dining experiences out of fear of racking up parking fees or penalties.  I also have to step away from my business to feed the meter or move my car, which in turn leads to lost business.

This is not simply a personal issue; it is an issue shared by many within our small business community. Public parking fees, rather than generating funds, actually create a financial negative for our city to the tune of $-13,000. Additionally they deter potential customers from spending money and time within our city limits.

Other similar-sized municipalities within the Bay Area have recognized these problems, and have successfully removed public parking fees, creating stronger, more vibrant, and more financially successful communities.

We suggest that embracing a similar approach in our city would not only relieve the struggles of small business owners, but also stimulate economic growth and increase the prosperity of our city.

We call upon our city council to apply more equitable alternatives to public parking fees that will not harm our city's business community. Sign the petition to support our call for the elimination of public parking fees. Let's create a thriving downtown where small businesses can flourish.
