Free Parking at the Public Beach Access in Myrtle Beach

The Issue

Recently the Myrtle Beach City Council passed a law stating that people parking at all public beach accesses will incur a charge of four dollars per hour or a daily fee of twenty dollars. The only citizens that will be exempt from these fees will be the people living within the Myrtle Beach city limits that have a city car decal. Over 250,000 local residents of Horry County who have historically called the beach their home will now lose access to the unique, ecological, and recreational value of our beach. The public should be afforded full and fair access to beaches, which are public trust resources. We the students of Horry County Schools are choosing to put our education to practice by actively participating in local government.
