Sex is a choice, something that individuals decide for themselves, but periods are not. Every month, millions of girls in South Africa face the reality of menstruation, often without the necessary resources to manage it. While condoms are freely available to prevent unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases, sanitary pads are not. This discrepancy highlights a critical gap in addressing basic hygiene and dignity for young girls. Many struggle to get pads each month, forcing them to miss school or endure uncomfortable, unsafe alternatives. Providing free sanitary products would not only support girls’ health but also ensure their education and future are not limited by a natural biological process.
