Free Orcas, dolphins, and whales from Captivity, Give Them a Life of Freedom!
The Issue
As an individual deeply concerned about the well-being and ethical treatment of animals, I am starting this petition to advocate for the immediate end of orcas being held in captivity. My passion for saving these magnificent creatures was ignited during my childhood when I had the privilege of witnessing Keiko at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Witnessing such a majestic being confined to a small enclosure solely for our entertainment left an indelible mark on my heart.
Keeping orcas, dolphins and whales in captivity is not only morally wrong but also detrimental to their physical and psychological health. These highly intelligent and social creatures are meant to roam vast ocean expanses, forming intricate social bonds within their pods and swimming great distances every day. Confining them to cramped tanks denies them their natural behaviors, causing immense stress, frustration, and even aggression.
Research has shown that captive orcas suffer from numerous health issues due to confinement. They experience higher mortality rates compared to their wild counterparts, with an average lifespan that is significantly shorter. Studies have also revealed that captive orcas exhibit abnormal behaviors such as repetitive movements, self-harm, and dental issues caused by biting on tank walls out of frustration.
Furthermore, it is important to acknowledge that public sentiment has shifted dramatically over recent years regarding keeping marine mammals in captivity. Many countries have already taken steps towards banning this practice due to growing awareness about animal welfare concerns.
To ensure a better future for these incredible beings who deserve nothing less than freedom and dignity, we urge lawmakers worldwide to make keeping these creatures in captivity illegal. Additionally, we implore authorities responsible for captive orca, dolphin and whale facilities across the globe to prioritize transitioning all currently held individuals into accredited sea sanctuaries where they can live out their lives with ample space and natural conditions.
By signing this petition today, you are joining me in demanding justice for these intelligent creatures who have suffered long enough for our amusement. Together, let us create a world where orcas are no longer confined but can thrive in the vastness of the ocean, where they belong.
