The Issue

Five years ago, I experienced the heartbreaking loss of my Emotional Support Animal, and I still remember the profound sense of sorrow and helplessness. There's an unparalleled bond that exists between humans and their service animals, and I understand just how essential it is for both to be together, especially in their final moments.

My boyfriend is currently incarcerated in Bremer County, IA, serving 30 days from a prior driving while barred charge. His dog got sick and he didn't want to abandon her to go in a serve the time so a warrant was issued and unfortunately he was picked up on it while his dog is on her last couple of weeks on earth. Now he is unable to be by the side of his beloved service dog, who is nearing the end of her life. His service dog has been more than a companion; she's been a steadfast partner in his daily challenges, providing emotional and physical support that is irreplaceable. Now, she is facing her last days, and it's only right that they spend this precious time together.

We are calling upon the Bremer County authorities to consider a compassionate release, allowing my boyfriend temporary leave to be with his service dog during her final days. This act of kindness would not only grant solace to my boyfriend but also honor the vital relationship between a service animal and her handler.

Service animals are integral to the lives of those they assist, and their dedication deserves recognition. Granting a temporary release to be with a dying service pet could set a compassionate precedent for others facing similar circumstances.

Join me in urging Bremer County to take action and provide my boyfriend the chance to say a proper goodbye. Please sign this petition and help reunite a loving owner with his devoted service dog in her final moments. Your support can make all the difference in their lives.
