Free Kshamenk the Orca who has been held captive since 1992

The Issue

🌊 Free Kshamenk the Orca – End 30+ Years of Captivity
For over three decades, a wild orca named Kshamenk has been held in captivity at Mundo Marino, Argentina’s largest marine park. He was taken from his ocean home in 1992, under circumstances that remain controversial, and has lived in isolation ever since.
Kshamenk is now the last captive orca in South America, forced to perform for entertainment in a cramped tank that is a mere shadow of the vast ocean he once knew. He has had no companionship from other orcas for over 20 years—a tragic fate for a species that thrives in complex social groups.
Orcas are incredibly intelligent, emotionally aware, and socially bonded animals. Keeping them in confinement, deprived of natural stimulation, freedom, and companionship, is not only inhumane, it is outdated and unethical.
Experts and activists have long called for Kshamenk to be relocated to a coastal sea sanctuary, where he could finally live with dignity, swim freely, and perhaps even connect with other marine life. These sanctuaries provide a compassionate and realistic alternative to life in a concrete tank.
We are calling on:
Mundo Marino to work with animal welfare experts to arrange Kshamenk’s release to a sanctuary
Argentinian authorities to support and facilitate this process
The public and international community to speak out against the continued captivity of Kshamenk
This is not just about one whale—it’s about changing how we treat all animals in captivity. Kshamenk has given enough. It’s time to give him his life back.
