The Issue

I am deeply moved and distressed to see the heart-wrenching images of the beautiful orca named Kshamenk, who lays motionless in a small concrete pool. It's disheartening to know that Kshamenk has been confined within Buenos Aires' Mundo Marino aquarium since 1992, making him the last captive orca in all of Latin America.

Orcas, also known as killer whales, are fascinating, intelligent mammals known for their sophistication and social structure. Captivity drastically affects their health and well-being, leading to a significant decrease in life expectancy. Kshamenk's current living conditions do not provide the requisite standards of care that his species require to thrive.

Mundo Marino aquarium, a member of The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), is responsible for Kshamenk's care and maintenance. However, the condition the orca is currently in shows a stark disregard for its responsibilities and a direct violation of WAZA's Code of Ethics, which clearly supports animal rights and welfare.

It's time for us to raise our voices against such cruelty and negligence towards these sentient beings. We implore Mariano Merino, the owner of Mundo Marino, to order the immediate release of Kshamenk into a seaside sanctuary where he can live out his remaining years in peace, engaging in natural behaviors and social structures.

Orca captivity is a pressing issue that we must address. Let's unite our voices to advocate for Kshamenk, and insist on a better, compassionate world for all marine life. Please sign this petition to demand the release of Kshamenk - because every life deserves respect and freedom.
