Free John Henry

Free John Henry

The Issue

John Henry Massie, has been in Prison since May 20, 1986 for drug racketeering during America’s  “War On Drugs” campaign. Though, no physical harm took place during the altercation John and 3 other men were arrested.  Due to poor public representation, John was convicted of 12 crimes resulting in him serving 7 consecutive life sentences with no chance for parole while 2 of the other three men were given lenient sentences and have been free for well over 20 years now.

John was sentenced to Life without possibility of Parole sentences for Non-homicide offenses during the same period where Capital crimes and Felony Murder remain Parole Eligible (1983-1995). He was convicted of an offenses against a person who testified that John did not commit the offense or encourage anyone else to commit it.

On December 3rd 2023 John will be 63 years old. At the age of 62, John has spent 35 years in prison, more than half of his life in prison. He has been a model prisoner with only one infraction over the past 36 years of his incarceration.  While incarcerated he created a curriculum that is being utilized by Correctional Institutions across South Florida that has decreased the recidivism rate while he himself remains in prison. This injustice must be corrected for John and the 1,000’s if not ten’s of 1,000 other brothers and sisters facing a similar plight.

The time to act is now as our country prepares to go into a new election cycle with all eyes looking toward the future with the hope to uphold America’s grandest ideas.  We are at a unique time in history where change and healing can be activated to Free John Henry Massie and thousands of people like him.

Our First Next Steps

1. Engage with the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI)

2. Acquire adequate legal representation.

3. Create and activate grass roots campaign “Free John Henry”

4. Film and Release the Netflix Documentary “Free John Henry”
