The Issue

We demand justice for Jeryl Daniels  a Missouri man serving life without parole for a 2013 crime he has always maintained he did not commit. After more than 12 years behind bars, his severe sickle cell disease is worsening rapidly in prison conditions that cannot provide the care he needs.

On June 1, 2013, a teen was killed in a drive-by shooting in St. Louis County. Jeryl Daniels was arrested, tried, and convicted in 2015 of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and armed criminal action. He received life without parole plus concurrent 15-year sentences.

Daniels has consistently claimed innocence. Supporters point to the absence of physical evidence no DNA, no firearm recovered, no fingerprints or ballistics tying him directly to the scene. His conviction rested on witness testimony that his defense didn’t challenged even with the witness being bias. He turned down a plea deal because he refused to admit guilt to a crime he says he did not commit. All direct appeals and post-conviction motions (including federal habeas) have been denied, but his supporters continue to seek a fresh, thorough review of the trial record.

What makes this urgent is Jeryl’s health. He battles severe sickle cell disease a painful, life-threatening condition that causes frequent hospitalizations, crises, and organ damage. Prison medical care has been inadequate, accelerating his decline. While incarcerated he has lost his mother, sister, brother, and other close family members devastating losses he could not mourn with loved ones. While incarcerated he continues to stay positive work in medical, go to school and advocate for others.

Missouri law allows compassionate release for inmates with serious medical conditions when continued incarceration serves no public safety purpose. Jeryl poses no threat and desperately needs specialized sickle cell treatment only available outside prison walls.

We urge Missouri Governor,  the Missouri Department of Corrections, the Attorney General, and the St. Louis County Circuit Court to immediately:

•  Re-examine the case for possible wrongful conviction

•  Grant compassionate release on medical grounds

•  Ensure he receives proper medical care in the interim

Jeryl has already served over 12 years. Sign this petition, share it, and help bring him home before it’s too late. Every signature matters.
