FREE HON. KYAGULANYI AKA BOBI WINE AND 33 INCARCERATED MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT AND LEADERS

The Issue

Uganda government has historically committed the crime of genocide against its own people inside its borders, and continues to do so today, often with the complicity of many Ugandan citizens and some of the security agencies. We now call upon the UNITED NATIONS and other world organisations to get involved and try convincing the President to restrain from arbitrary and draconian way of handling opposition members.

This was experienced during the Bugiri by-elections where the police fired rounds of live ammunition into the people and many deaths were reported, including the bodyguard to one of the contestants in the opposition, Hon. Asuman Basalirwa. Recently in the just concluded Arua municipality elections, where the original incumbent member of parliament had been gunned down in cold blood in daylight as he returned home, this prompted the just concluded by election in the same area where there was the violent killing of Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert aka Bobi Wine’s driver Yassin Kawuuma in cold blooded murder whilst he sat in the vehicle of the young vibrant MP Bobi Wine, more than 4km away from the rallies, as the world was watching, this young peaceful man was shot dead, some have argued the target was his boss.

The government and its security operatives like the Presidential Special Force Command, Police started arresting people claiming they had stoned the presidential convoy and among those who were arrested included MP’s like Hon. Bobi Kyagulanyi, Hon. Zzake, Hon. Karuhanga and newly elected MP Wadiri and others plus the citizens not withstanding the fact the said stoned car was located 5km away from where the individuals were arrested from, in their hotel rooms, journalists were beaten up to near pulp and had cameras confiscated that had documented all this evil, and they had been airing live news feeds.

The government then went ahead to charge the arrested with acts of treason and alleged the charged were armed with guns and ammunition in the hotel room, something all hotel staff and security plus the owner has refuted saying these were planted by the state operatives during the arrests. It is a fallacy apart from the newly elected Arua Municpality MP who has a registered hand gun that he declared anyway.

These people have been tortured to the extreme that they can’t walk, stand even seeing. Those who were brought to court were denied bail while others like Hon. Kyagulanyi were tried under Military court with claims that the government found illegal guns with him and ammunition. This is absurd as the MP advocates for people power and collective accountability of government and never advocates for war or acts of violence, he has been the voice of reason within the opposition urging for unity to demand for accountability, he is a musician, an artist, a poet and definitely not a gun slinging welding individual.

It is in the interest of all freedom-loving Ugandan people worldwide  and all well wishers of good governance to unite, being oppressed within the borders of Uganda, in our struggle for our basic human rights of freedom from the Museveni imposed regime of violence and oppression and for self-determination and liberation with economic and political control over our lives and communities.

We will show that despite the heroic struggle of Ugandan people during the 1980s liberation war, Ugandan people exist today under conditions in which the Uganda government powers which promised heaven and earth not only fail to protect our health and well-being as expected under full citizenship, but continually inflict state supported violence and terror on us.

Uganda is bound by international treaties that guarantee all Ugandans the right to education, right to non-discrimination and equality, and right to be free from violence.

We demand the government of Uganda to release Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, and all other MP’s and citizens arrested because Museveni feared Hon. Kyagulanyi as a political opponent who commands the youth constituency that takes up more than 70% of the population. Museveni continues to act in an arbitrary manner well knowing he has the support of the Western Democracies especially England and USA, he knows the role he plays for these democracies in Somalia where Ugandan soldiers police the streets among others. The Ugandan people urge you to find the decency to at least reign him in for the sake of sanity and avoiding hatred which could easily escalate into bloodshed like seen before in the region.

Sign your name to the letter to the named persons and bodies encouraging them to take action to prevent these human right violations, stand up and be counted and not let our country slip back into turmoil. Museveni has been president 33 years and counting.
