Darius Christopher Austin has been serving a life sentence since 2011 for his alleged involvement in a robbery case in Escambia County, Florida. Darius was never identified in a lineup, and the victim was unable to identify him. He was picked up after the robbery had already taken place, and no victim’s property was found on him.

Because of this sentence, Darius has been separated from his family for over a decade. He was unable to attend our mother’s funeral, has missed irreplaceable moments in his daughter’s life, and will be absent as she graduates high school this May. He has also been unable to be present for his nieces and nephews, who need him in their lives.

We respectfully ask the Governor of Florida, the Florida Commission on Offender Review, and the State Attorney for the First Judicial Circuit to review Darius Christopher Austin’s life sentence and consider clemency or sentence modification.

Justice should allow room for fair review, mercy, and family unity. Darius has already served more than a decade in prison. It is time to give him a chance to come home.
