Free Anthony Boyd from Death Row

Free Anthony Boyd from Death Row
The Issue
Who is Anthony Boyd?
Anthony Boyd is a father, grandfather, brother, and son who is loved deeply by his family. His children and grandchildren describe him as a gentle, caring man who has remained a source of strength despite decades on death row. They know him not as the “monster” painted by the State, but as a family man of faith who listens, encourages, and prays with them
What Happened in His Case?
In 1995, Anthony was convicted in connection with the tragic death of Gregory Huguley, who was kidnapped and killed in Munford, Alabama.
But the case against Anthony was built on shaky ground:
⚖️ The Truth About the Testimony Against Anthony Boyd
• Key Witness Contradictions: The prosecution’s main witness, Quintay Cox, gave 7 or 8 different statements about what happened. In most of those statements, Anthony Boyd’s name never appeared at all.
• The only version that mentioned Anthony is the one the State chose to use in trial.
• This raises a serious question: If Anthony were truly guilty, why did Cox’s story keep changing — and why was his name missing from most accounts?
• A man’s life should not depend on a testimony so inconsistent and manipulated.
• The key witness for the State, Quintay Cox, originally refused to testify and exercised his constitutional right not to.
• The prosecution, however, pressured him relentlessly. His own lawyer and even his family were used to coerce him into testifying under the threat of the death penalty. The court held proceedings open for hours until Cox changed his mind.
• Cox’s testimony only claimed that Anthony tied the victim’s hands and feet under orders from another man who had a gun. Anthony was not accused of setting the fire.
• The jury never heard from Anthony’s alibi witnesses, who would have testified that he was somewhere else entirely at the time of the crime.
• Many of the other State witnesses were drug users or individuals facing jail time, who had powerful incentives to cooperate with prosecutors in exchange for leniency.
On top of this, Anthony’s court-appointed lawyer had been licensed only 4 months, had never tried a case before, and had just 1 month to prepare for a capital murder trial. His co-counsel refused to put in unpaid time to prepare. As a result, Anthony went to trial effectively defenseless.
Why Does He Deserve Mercy?
Anthony has always maintained his innocence. His trial was filled with coercion, unreliable witnesses, and ineffective representation. The jury that sentenced him to die never heard the full truth — especially the alibi evidence that could have changed everything.
Even if the State’s version of events were accepted, Anthony was not the killer, nor the one who set the fire. His life should not be taken when there is so much doubt about his involvement and when the trial process itself was so deeply unfair.
Anthony is also a man whose life still matters. He is a father and grandfather whose family loves him dearly and would be devastated by his loss. Mercy in this case would not undo the tragedy of Mr. Huguley’s death, but it would prevent the State from committing another irreversible wrong.
What Can You Do?
Anthony is scheduled to be executed by nitrogen hypoxia in Alabama on October 23–24, 2025. We are asking Governor Kay Ivey to grant clemency and commute his sentence accordingly.
📢 Please stand with us:
• Share Anthony’s story with others.
• Support petitions and letters for clemency.
• Help us show that Anthony’s life has value and that mercy is the right path forward.
Anthony deserves justice. He deserves mercy. He deserves life.
