Ahmed Zaoui, a human rights activist, has been arrested at gun point on 2.10.2023 in Algeria for legal human rights activism.

Ahmed Zaoui is a New Zealand citizen, who copped a bit of fame when his New Zealand refugee status was delayed by New Zealand security but was eventually granted after it was found in his legal battle that their intel was based on baseless accusations from the Algerian government. He moved back to Algeria thinking the political situation has settled but as we all found through this arrest this is not the case anymore.

If you had the privilege of knowing him you would know a smile never leaves his face, he's a learnt humble man and has always denounced extremist terrorism, religion or state sponsored.

When asked by the Algerian security team when he was arrested if he had any weapons he replied "I only have books", the mark of a true warrior of human rights.

We ask all governments and Foreign Affairs ministers, worldwide, with specific emphasis on the New Zealand Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, at Parliaments/government houses, to explain the above, and demand that the Algerian government release Ahmed Zaoui immediately.

We ask all involved to take action ASAP, as any delays may come at the expense of an innocent human rights activist’s life.
