The Issue

Imagine having a unique and potentially commercializable idea, a working prototype that you spent a lot of time and money building.

At one point, you understand that you cannot develop this idea any further with your level of income and level of access to knowledge and R and D technology.

This experience is not only personal to me but is shared by many other working class innovators in Frederick, MD, who have groundbreaking ideas and innovative projects but lack access to practical resources and expert guidance.

Frederick, MD, has a potential to become a vibrant hub for creativity and potential, home to numerous talented individuals eager to innovate and create. Yet, we lack a vital component - a dedicated makerspace akin to the one at the Rockville Library, yet perhaps with a more biotech orientation.

Such a facility would be a transformative resource for the community, providing essential support for startups, small businesses, and individual makers who need space and tools to bring their ideas to life.

Makerspaces offer a collaborative environment where people can access cutting-edge tools, equipment, and mentorship from experts or simply meet other people who share the same interest on a neutral territory and learn from them. They are fertile grounds for innovation, where ideas can blossom into fully-fledged projects and new teams are born.

For me and many others, having access to a makerspace would mean the difference between a dream deferred and a dream realized.

Establishing a makerspace in Frederick would spur economic growth and foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. It would empower individuals and small businesses, allowing them to experiment, innovate, and develop products that can compete on a larger scale.

By signing this petition, you will be supporting a movement to provide crucial resources for practical innovators in our community. Together, we can advocate for the creation of a makerspace in Frederick, MD, to unlock the full potential of our local entrepreneurs and innovators. Please sign and share this petition to push for a brighter, more innovative future for Frederick.

Please do not tell me to contact the Frederick Innovation and Technology Center. They are clearly not interested in helping working class innovators.
