Send FCPS Maryland students back to school for in person learning!!

The Issue

As technical issues with fcps, schoology, and other platforms continue to happen daily, on top of WiFi connectivity issues with many families in rural Frederick county; we need to demand that FCPS come up with a plan for students to go back in person now! Our children (and families) are frustrated, angry, overwhelmed, and depressed, we as parents and tax payers need to demand our children receive a proper education. There are so many obstacles that virtual school cannot address, children whoms learning style does not fit the virtual platform, children with learning disabilities and IEP’s, children with parents who work and are being left to defend for themselves with older siblings, for parents spending thousand of dollars a month to send their children to daycare centers and private institutions inside our public schools, and students in rural parts of the county where fcps provided hotspots and WiFi are unreliable. This is not about the teachers, they are doing the best they can and I am grateful and thankful for them, this is about providing options for parents, an option to send their children to school or continue to send their children to school virtually . We need a plan written up and we need to start executing phases to get our kids back in school for in person learning. Washington county, Maryland came up with a plan within a week to get all students back in school in a detailed 5 phase process by the end of September. Neighboring states Pennsylvania and West Virginia are sending kids back to school in person. The covid case numbers and scientific facts from the CDC are not there to justify students not returning to school in our county. I ask that you to pleaee sign this petition and share to get our kids back in school and I urge you to please write emails to our superintendent-Theresa Alban at theresa.alban@fcps.org and Michael Markoe at Michael.markoe@fcps.org and demand that our voices be heard and to send our children back to school.

Thank you.
