1. SUMMARY:
Mario C Alvarez Sanchez and Nam Nguyen, of Las Vegas, Nevada, defrauded the tournament along with all the players involved (children included), the tournament director, and sponsors of $2,500. The tournament was hosted by IJAG in Lehi, Utah on June 1st, 2024 to raise funds for the charity, United Way.
This act not only undermines the integrity of charitable events but also deeply hurts those who trusted them. Not to mention the damage it causes to the growth of the sport of table tennis. We demand that Mario C Alvarez Sanchez and Nam Nguyen do the following to make things whole:
- Both publicly apologize via live zoom meeting to all victims (players and tournament director/sponsor and especially to the young children who's innocence and trust they've violated)
- Both must promise to never engage in such fraudulent activities again.
- Both must return all $2,500 back to the tournament sponsor.
Some may point the finger mentioning that the tournament director and/or sponsor could have done a better job. The tournament should have been USATT sanctioned, they could have done this or that or setup some more advanced anti-fraud system. That is absolutely true as there is obvious room for improvement from the tournament adminstration side and there is never a perfectly run tournament. There will always be opportunities to improve. However, that is not the purpose of this petition. This petition's purpose is to spread awareness to the community of these two individuals and their fraudulant actions and for the community to support and stand together against such predmeditated criminal behavior.
The intentions of the tournament director and sponsors were good. Their goal was to help increase awareness of table tennis in Utah as well as raise money for United Way.
However, the intentions of Mario C Alvarez Sanchez and Nam Nguyen was simply to defraud the tournament of its prize money by whatever means necessary. Like viruses vs virus scanners, regardless of what system is put in place to prevent fraud, these fraudsters are in the business of circumventing the system in order to gain an advantage.
2. WHAT DID MARIO DO?
*IMPORTANT* NO ONE KNEW WHO MARIO “SANCHEZ” WAS TILL AFTER THE TOURNAMENT
Mario C Alvarez Sanchez, known on USATT as Mario Alvarez rated 2023, known on both his instagram accounts as Mario Alvarez, in published news articles as Mario Alvarez, and known as Mario Alvarez on his own website touting himself as a “National Level Coach, a member of the Nicaraguan National Table Tennis Team, as the Head Pro and Club Manager for Las Vegas Table Tennis Club, and has a background as a clinical psychologist”, registered under false pretenses for the U1500 event (under 1500 rating skill level) for the sole purpose of taking home the $1,000 1st place prize. He signed up using another last name “Mario Sanchez” and states he is ~1500 in rating skill to the tournament team. In addition, Mario C Alvarez Sanchez has been proven to be a pathological liar as shown through the many evidence in the links that disproves his constant blaming of others. Mario ended up defrauding the charity tournament of $1,000 of prize money. Even after the tournament ended, Mario continued to say he signed up for the high level events to various people via text message, facebook message, and on public facebook posts... that is, until we posted his registration to prove he's full of lies.
Mario's Registration Form Provided by Tournament Staff - Full Video
The tournament team entered Mario in the U1500 based on Mario’s registration information, and because they could not find a Mario Sanchez in the USATT database, they gave him a default 0 rating. Mario never reached out to the tournament staff despite multiple opportunities prior and during the tournament to change the event. Mario was masking his skill level throughout the his first match against a 9 year old girl. When confronted about his skill level, he first tried to show that he was under 1500 in skill level, then when it's too obvious he is much higher rated, he then states he can play any even he wants. He states and repeatedly tells everyone, “I HAVE NO RATING! I AM UNRATED!” Even when requested to stop competing in the U1500 even because it was too obvious he is overrated, he refused and started to blame the tournament team. He blamed the tournament team and continued to compete stating he is forced to play this event. Why? Because as Mario's says "I PLAY FOR THE MONEY, EVERYONE DOES IT FOR THE MONEY". This is all caught on video. Per Marios logic, even if he was accidently placed in the women's event, he would forcibly play the women's event to take their prize money. If he was accidently placed in the under 18 years old Juniors event, he would also play the Juniors event to take their prize money as well.
He even states that he signed up for multiple high level events U2300 and Open but they were full (lie). He's not on any wait list. In addition, "Ken" Nguyen, you can see is not on the roster for the U1800 but signed up and was able to play the U1800. "Ken" doctored the scores so it looks like the games were close and that he didn't win the U1800.
It was only after the tournament after Mario had taken the $1,000 1st place prize for the U1500 event, and numerous victims were left in his wake of fraudulent destruction that numerous groups of people did further research and found out who Mario truly was. When Mario first posted on Facebook that he won the U1500 event, that's when people found out and shared. He has since then changed the photo's description.
Mario's current excuse is that the tournament team allowed another 2100 player to also play U1500. He shows this by using a fake account on youtube to showcase this. He basically is calling out the tournament team for allowing, Nam Nguyen, to compete. Funny thing is, not only are they both from Las Vegas, Nevada, not only they registered under the same club, but we have proof (waiting on consent, but will submit to court of law) from the horses own mouth. A picture of Mario texting a friend a the picture of the U1500 winners and writing to his "I beat my friend 3 to 0. He is 2130. I don't know how he did in the 1800s. Of course my friend is better." They are fellow fraudsters. Funny how there is no honor among thieves.
3. WHAT DID NAM DO?
*IMPORTANT* NO ONE KNEW WHO “KEN” NGUYEN WAS TILL AFTER THE TOURNAMENT
Nam Nguyen did the exact same thing as Mario, but in an even more exaggerated form. Known as Nam Nguyen on USATT rated 2048, he first registered with his real name Nam Nguyen for the as a 1800+ rated player and then later that same day registered under false pretenses for the U1800 event and U1500 event for the sole purpose of taking home the $1,000 1st place prize for each event. (Look at the USATT / Omnipong partial phone number and partial email and you'll see the match). He signed up using the fake name “Ken Nguyen” and states he is ~1000 in rating skill to the tournament team. Nam Nguyen ended up defrauding the charity tournament of $1,500 of prize money.
The tournament team entered "Ken" in the U1500 based on “Ken’s” registration information because the U1000 was full at the time, and because they could not find a “Ken” Nguyen in USATT database, they gave him a default 0 rating. “Ken” did ask the tournament team on the day of the tournament and was also able to be added into the U1800 event as well. Many people also noted that Ken was playing well above 1500 rating and was more around 2100 in rating. “Ken” denied it and also tried to mislead people with statements such as "I just immigrated from Vietnam."
"Nam" decided to not show up nor play the U2300 he signed up for. It was considered a no show.
It wasn’t till after the tournament after “Ken” had taken the $1,000 1st place prize for the U1800 event and $500 2nd place prize for the U1500 event (losing to Mario in the finals) and also numerous other victims were left in the wake of his fraudulent destruction, that several people banded together to research and find out who “Ken” really was. “Ken” Nguyen ended up defrauding the charity tournament of $1,500 of prize money.

4. NEXT STEPS
Because Mario C Alvarez Sanchez has continually rejected offers of the above 3 steps, and Nam has refused to step forward nor answer any of the tournament teams communications, we're asking for the community to help with momentum on the petition so we can bring these 2 to justice by showing the following agencies below how many people do care about this issue. Please support and share with others.
The following Next Steps have already started:
- USATT Grevience and Ethics Committee
- Las Vegas Table Tennis Club - Already confirmed with multiple LV players and the owner of of LVTTC "Mario IS NOT NOR WAS HE EVER the Head Pro nor the Club Manager. He is not even on the payroll. Also the club has been closed since August of 2023" "The owner allowed Mario to use his facility to coach without charging Mario a floor fee as a way to help the poor guy out."
- Las Vegas Table Tennis Association and Members
- Reporting Mario to Nevada Board of Pyschological Examiners - as Mario states that "he has a background as a clinical psychologist".
- Provide documentation to Criminal Division - District of Utah - Department of Justice for criminal fraud
- Compile all documentation of Mario's defamation and slander to tournament director and sponsor for defamation civil lawsuit. - Compiling
5. ADDITIONAL PROOF AND INFO
Link to all proof and evidence: Click Here - There are much more evidence than shown on this article of how much of a compulsive liar Mario is. All is located in the link above.
The Original Youtube Posts: The 6 raw and unedited videos are publicly available on the youtube link below. Be sure to read the video description and the pinned comments.
Snapshots and evidence and citations of 1st round of evidence were published in this google doc: https://shorturl.at/LVMbK

Regarding the logic around Mario's Fraud:
Even if we all gave him EVERY BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT, he accidently gave the wrong last name, he clicked on the wrong rating, the tournament director did make all the errors and put him incorrectly at the U1500 event... He did the following that makes this a clear case of FRAUD:
-
- He repeated lies in every video: "I HAVE NO RATING!". Here is his USATT 2023 rating (you need to have simplycompete account to see inactive players, else look at the bottom of the article)
- He knowingly continues to play and win the U1500 an event which he is overqualified. If he was put in the womens event, he would played the womens event. If he was put in the under 18 years old Juniors event, he would have done so as well. Why?
- Because "I PLAY FOR THE MONEY, EVERYONE DOES IT FOR THE MONEY"
If the IRS accidentally gives you 2 million in a tax refund when they meant to give you only 2 thousand, do you think the additional 1.998 million is yours to use? If you want to blame the IRS, go ahead and spend that money and see what happens.
Why is the “HEAD COACH of Las Vegas TTC”, “#1 in NEVADA”, “#1 in NICARAGUA”, “#621 WTT Ranking” stealing prize money from U1500 level players? Even worse, Mario is in a position to spread his lack of integrity and behavior to others. Would you send your kids to him for coaching? Would you trust him with anything? His actions were premeditated and narcissistic. -It's been confirmed. Mario is not the head coach of Las Vegas TTC, he is not #1 in Nevada, and he is not #1 in Nicaragua. It's just more lies from him. Habitual liar. The national organization for table tennis in Nicaragua has already been contacted.
6. SPECIAL THANKS
A QUICK THANK YOU TO ALL AND TO THE TOURNAMENT TEAM:
