Geese crossing signs needed on Commerce Valley Drive West
The Issue
I am deeply concerned about the safety of the drivers and the Canada geese at Commerce Valley Dr W, Markham.
This road is next to Vanhorn pond, a habitat for Canada geese for at least the past 16 years since I moved in the neighborhood. The geese love to hang out by the pond, at Le Parc, near the CGI building, and on South Park Rd, etc. But there are no signs warning drivers about the risk of the geese crossing.
Over the past few years, I have witnessed that the lovely waterfowl became road-kills at about 2 ~ 3 times a year. This is just the number that I witnessed with my own eyes. Sometimes, wild rabbits became the victims too in the areas. The 3 red-star signs mark the locations where road-kills usually happened.
Last Saturday, another goose became the latest victim, on the red-star mark bottom-right of the attached image. It was such a sad sight to see a lovely goose died in pain. She seemed to be on a break from hatching eggs.
I personally feel that at least 4 geese crossing signs are needed as marked by the 4 red-hexigon on the attached image. As cars turning on the curves, it's difficult for the drivers to see the crossing birds from certain directions (indicated by the red arrows).
For the safety of the lovely Canada symbols and the drivers, I strongly suggest that geese crossing signs be set up on the 4 marked locations.
Thank you very much for your time and considerations.
