Children of divorce have a right to both parents equally.

Children of divorce have a right to both parents equally.
The Issue
In the state of Washington, 80% of parenting plans are a 70/30 split, thus alienating one parent from the child or children. The alienated parent, most often the father, is then forced to pay child support in order to see his or her child. The state of Washington then collects $.77 from the Federal government for every dollar of child support it collects. In other words, Washington state is incentivized to create unfair parenting plans, alienate parents and bring unnecessary turmoil into the lives of countless Washington families who are already struggling through a difficult divorce.
The state of Florida is working to change their laws in order to protect the rights of its children, who have a fundamental human right to equal access to both parents by enacting Senate Bill 250: "Creating a presumption that approximately equal time-sharing by both parents is in the best interest of the child; prohibiting the modification of a determination of parental responsibility, a parenting plan, or a time-sharing schedule unless certain determinations are made, etc."
Washington state must do the same. Children have a right be be loved, cared for and nurtured by both parents equally; they have a right to equal access to both parents; they have a right to be guided, taught, supervised, disciplined, and nurtured by each parent equally. These basic rights are stymied by unfair, uneven parenting plans which serve to alienate one parent from the child's life for the financial benefit of the state.
It's time for Washington to stand up for and protect its children from unfair Family Court practices. Please follow Florida's leadership in correcting this gross injustice.
